Creative Businesses Light Up Downtown Burlingame

Contest winners feature window displays that light up the Avenue

Downtown Burlingame, CA, December 22, 2022–The end-of-year holidays are a time when merchants create an inviting, celebratory ambiance to lift people’s spirits and bring a bit of warmth and light to the cold dark days of winter. This year, the Burlingame Downtown Business Improvement District (DBID) invited retailers and restaurants to feature their creative originality with lighting and holiday themes in our 1st Annual Holiday Display Window and Parklet Contest. Five judges rated Downtown Burlingame business contest entries to determine who among the entries would be the winners. First Place Winner, Massage Envy, created a white light winter wonderland of icicles, reindeer, and the Eifel tower. Solo Bambini took second place by delighting the eye with Venetian masks and shiny objets d’art and the Cakery won third place with their traditional holiday themes of Santas, stockings, candy canes, and decorated trees welcoming customers with a cheerful streetlight at their entrance.

The judges are local consumers who live and work in Burlingame. Carolyn Cottrell, retired teacher and past President of the Burlingame Woman’s Club; Marica Bauer and Carol Batte, City of Burlingame Beautification Commissioners; Maryam Refah, Graphic Artist with the Burlingame Public Library; and, Emily Matthews, owner or Nola Marketing and current President of the Burlingame Woman’s Club. Tom Upton, professional photographer, photographed the various store entries so the business owners may add these to the marketing strategy.

The Burlingame Downtown DBID looks forward to an ongoing tradition of the “Light up Burlingame Holiday Display Window Competition” as a way to attract customers to Downtown Burlingame and a wonderful approach to celebrate the spirit of the season. The Burlingame Downtown Business Improvement District (DBID) represents over 500 Downtown Burlingame businesses. The Burlingame DBID is a coalition of businesses working together to promote business and civic activity in downtown Burlingame. Merchants include a cross-section of retail, restaurant, professional, and service businesses.
